Karachi now Home to Asia’s First Printing Museum

Karachi is now the location for Asia’s first printing press museum, a fact brought to light during a visit by Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Jam Ikramullah Dharejo. The facility houses an extensive collection of rare machinery, including a fully restored printing press from 1830, establishing it as a unique repository of printing history on the continent.

According to a statement issued today, upon his arrival at the Sindh Government Printing Press Museum, the provincial minister was warmly received by Controller Faheem Qureshi and other officials. He was then given a comprehensive briefing about the institution”s historical importance and present state.

Mr. Qureshi informed the minister that the museum showcases 54 vintage printing machines with origins dating from 1830 to 1954. He highlighted the successful restoration of a historic printing apparatus from 1830, bringing a pivotal piece of printing evolution back to its original working condition.

Touring the various sections, Jam Ikramullah Dharejo remarked that the museum effectively preserves the complete chronicle of printing, from its earliest evolution to the modern digital era. He identified the establishment as a significant asset for researchers and individuals seeking knowledge on the subject.

The minister expressed that it is a matter of great pride for the government and the people of Sindh that this pioneering institution is located in Karachi. He added that the museum offers a treasure of information for anyone interested in the development of writing and printing technologies.
