Tajikistan Confirms Participation in Islamabad Conference on Regional Peace and Security

Tajikistan has confirmed its attendance at a crucial upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, a significant development aimed at bolstering regional peace and security through parliamentary diplomacy, following a high-level meeting between top legislative officials from both nations.

The understanding was reached during discussions on Friday between Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and the Chairman of Tajikistan’s Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon), Mr. Fayzali Idizoda. The meeting took place on the sidelines of an Inter-Parliamentary Conference in Baku.

The Islamabad conference, scheduled to be hosted by the Senate of Pakistan from November 10 to 12, 2025, is designed to foster dialogue on critical issues of regional development and stability.

During the engagement, Chairman Gilani highlighted the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Tajikistan, describing it as built on mutual respect, shared faith, and a collective vision for peace and prosperity.

He underscored the necessity for deeper cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges, noting that enhanced parliamentary linkages were essential for promoting mutual understanding.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of regular interaction between parliamentary committees and friendship groups to exchange legislative experiences and best practices in tackling common challenges like economic development and environmental sustainability.

Addressing shared concerns over terrorism and extremism, Chairman Gilani called for continued collaboration through regional platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The officials also acknowledged the expanding defense partnership between their countries, emphasizing the need to enhance collaboration in military training, capacity building, and intelligence sharing for regional stability.

On the economic front, the Chairman Senate stressed the importance of boosting trade and investment, particularly in the textile, agriculture, industrial, and energy sectors, while noting the strong coordination between the two nations at international forums.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to broaden educational and cultural linkages to promote understanding and cooperation among the youth of both nations.
