A faculty development program at Shah Abdul Latif University is tackling modern educational challenges, focusing on innovative methods of student assessment, ensuring equity in the classroom, and providing essential psychological support to students.
This training workshop, ongoing in collaboration with the Sindh Higher Education Commission, continued for its second day on Tuesday, with sessions designed to enhance the professional skills of new teachers.
During the day’s opening session, Assistant Professor Dr. Anwar Ali Phulpoto gave a detailed presentation on “Assessment.” He stressed the importance of evaluating student learning through contemporary methods, covering formative and summative assessment techniques and the creation of diagnostic tools aligned with course objectives.
This was followed by a discussion on education led by Dr. Umedan Channa of GIMS Gambat, who emphasized the need to promote equity in the classroom. He discussed providing adequate facilities to students from diverse backgrounds to create a truly inclusive learning environment for all participants.
Dr. Channa also led a session on student counseling, utilizing case studies and role-play exercises to provide practical guidance. The session explored the provision of psychological support to students and raised awareness about the dynamics of the teacher-student relationship.
Key sessions on the program’s first day included a workshop on effective teaching methods facilitated by Assistant Professor Ibrahim Khokhar, who is also serving as the Training Coordinator. Additionally, Dr. Shaista Pathan conducted a session on writing funding proposals, detailing research funding opportunities and the proper structuring of proposals.
This series of professional development is set to continue, with master trainers from Larkana University scheduled to conduct three specialized sessions to further broaden the scope of the training.
