US Consul’s important meeting with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Chief Minister’s House, discussion on investment

High-level talks were held between the US Consul General and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday. The discussion focused on strengthening security cooperation and leveraging the province’s rich mineral and energy resources to promote economic stability, while a proposal to hold a global Business and Investment Roadshow was also considered.

US Consul General Thomas Eckert emphasized the importance of commercial diplomacy, calling it a “central pillar of US foreign policy.” He stated that promoting economic diplomacy would enhance overall peace and stability, and described partnerships in the mineral and energy sectors as a key way to strengthen this approach.

In response, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi affirmed that the provincial government’s decisions are centered on public interest. He highlighted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minerals Act, which gives first priority to the local population in investments, and assured that private investment beneficial to local communities would be fully encouraged and facilitated.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the province’s recovery efforts, stating that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most affected region in the war on terror after 9/11. He detailed ongoing measures, including the construction of small hydropower plants and dams for affordable and clean energy, as well as a focus on infrastructure and institutional strengthening so that residents of the merged districts can directly benefit from the rare mineral reserves.

During the meeting, a concrete proposal to hold a Business and Investment Roadshow aimed at promoting global trade was a key topic. The discussion also considered inviting leaseholders of the province’s precious and rare minerals to participate in the proposed event.

The comprehensive discussion also included extensive talks on US cooperation in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics, as well as enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, and security.
