PTI Lawyer Slams Imran Khan’s 851-Day Detention and ‘Death Cell’ Confinement

Advocate Farhan Javed Memon, a senior figure in the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Lawyers Forum, today condemned the continued incarceration of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, labeling his 851-day detention and 29-day period of enforced isolation a “blatant violation of fundamental human and constitutional rights.”

In a press statement, the Sindh High Court legal expert described the government”s handling of the situation as a “complete failure and open defiance of the Constitution.” He asserted that denying Khan access to his family, legal team, and personal physicians constitutes a serious human rights violation unacceptable in any democratic nation.

Memon stated that confining the former prime minister to a death cell and restricting meetings despite judicial directives is an “insult to the judiciary and an attack on fundamental human values.” He cited the unprecedented denial of a meeting for the elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a cause of nationwide unrest, questioning the government”s motives. “If Imran Khan’s health is sound, why is the government avoiding meetings?” he asked.

Addressing recent discussions about imposing Governor”s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the advocate warned that such actions would undermine the province”s mandate and weaken the federal structure. He accused the federal government of withholding funds and creating crises to establish a “false pretext” for seizing control, calling it a “political misuse of Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.”

Commenting on recent by-elections, Memon pointed to the 23% voter turnout as a reflection of the administration”s low public support. He argued that reported electoral irregularities underscore an urgent need for reforms and characterized the PML-N”s alleged victory as a “continuation of a fabricated mandate.”

The advocate also highlighted that a report from the Commonwealth Observer Group validated PTI”s position on rigging in the General Election of 2024. “The public mandate was stolen, and the truth is now exposed on an international level,” he declared, vowing that the PTI Lawyers Forum would continue its fight for justice.

Memon further criticized what he termed the administration”s “authoritarian mindset,” citing jail trials, human rights violations, and restrictions on freedom of expression through PECA amendments as actions targeting political leaders, media, and lawyers.

Concluding his statement, Advocate Memon issued a set of demands, calling for an immediate end to Imran Khan”s isolation, the allowance of all meetings and medical checkups, and a cessation of human rights violations. He urged for the restoration of constitutional order, asserting, “The nation will no longer tolerate further delay.”
