Sindh to Pioneer Pakistan’s First Biogas-Powered Bus Fleet

The Sindh government has formally initiated the process to acquire the country’s first-ever fleet of biogas-powered buses for Karachi, marking a significant step towards environmentally sustainable public transportation.

The announcement was made by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon following a high-level meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at his office today. The discussion, attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and Trans Karachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, focused on financial support for transport-related projects and key future initiatives.

During the meeting, the ADB representatives assured their continued backing for both ongoing transport projects and forthcoming mobility ventures within the province.

Speaking on the occasion, the senior minister emphasized that the provincial administration”s priority is to ensure the new fleet provides services of an international standard. He confirmed the modern, environmentally friendly buses will each be equipped with an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

Memon added that construction on a biogas plant to support the eco-friendly bus fleet will commence soon. He stated that such initiatives are vital for promoting sustainable transport, noting that biogas and electric vehicles will play an important role in reducing environmental pollution.
