Sports – Athapaththu Climbs to Third in T20I All-Rounder Rankings Ahead of World Cup

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has made significant strides in the latest ICC Women”s T20I Player Rankings, climbing to third overall among all-rounders following her stellar performance in the recent series against Bangladesh, just weeks before the ICC Women”s T20 World Cup commences on June 12.

According to an official report today, athapaththu was named Player of the Series during Sri Lanka”s emphatic 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh. The experienced batter accumulated 115 runs across three innings and contributed four wickets with the ball, showcasing a dominant all-round display.

These efforts have seen the 36-year-old ascend three places to 41st on the T20I bowlers” rankings. Furthermore, she gained two positions to secure third place on the T20I all-rounders” list, now trailing only New Zealand skipper Melie Kerr and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews. Athapaththu has surpassed India”s Deepti Sharma and Australia”s Ash Gardner in this category.

Further positive movements were observed for other Sri Lankan players. Harshita Samarawickrama advanced five places to equal 20th, and Imesha Dulani climbed 23 spots to 49th on the rankings for T20I batters. Meanwhile, teammates Kavisha Dilhari (up two slots to 17th) and Malki Madara (up 11 places to 44th) also showed notable improvement on the T20I bowlers” charts alongside their captain.

Despite their series loss, Bangladesh recorded notable individual performances. Sharmin Akhter Supta rose 10 places to 37th, Dilara Akter moved up five spots to 55th, and Shorna Akter advanced 19 places to equal 62nd on the T20I batters” list. Sultana Khatun was the biggest improver for T20I bowlers, jumping 48 slots to 38th.

In separate updates, the latest ODI rankings reflect changes following the opening match of the three-game series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe in Karachi. The hosts secured a 1-0 advantage with a commanding 168-run triumph.

For Pakistan, Sidra Amin progressed three places to 11th on the updated rankings for ODI batters. Teammate Sadaf Shamas also gained ground, moving up 12 slots to 72nd, largely due to her innings of 98 at the top of the order against Zimbabwe.

Nashra Sandhu improved one place to 11th on the ODI bowlers” rankings. Captain Fatima Sana moved up two spots to equal 26th on the same list and also jumped two positions to 15th on the rankings for ODI all-rounders.
