A tense situation developed in Khairpur when the family of a deceased woman, Reshma Soomro, protested with her body outside the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, alleging that she was murdered by her husband after systematic torture.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday in Mill Colony, within the jurisdiction of the B-Section police station, where Aamir Shaikh is accused of murdering his wife.
In a dramatic response, the grieving relatives took the deceased’s body to the SSP office and started a sit-in protest, severely disrupting traffic flow on adjacent roads.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Khairpur negotiated with the protesters in an attempt to calm the situation. However, their appeal to end the protest was rejected, and the officer left after the failed negotiations.
Expressing their grief, the deceased’s mother, Ms. Gulshan Khatoon, sister Gul Bano Soomro, brothers Abdul Ghafoor Soomro, Mubeen Soomro, and Rashid Soomro, accompanied by Councilor Manzoor Memon, claimed that Ms. Soomro was subjected to daily violence by her husband. They stated that she passed away at a hospital last night.
The family leveled serious allegations against law enforcement agencies, stating, “The police are busy trying to save the murderers.”
Reiterating their firm stance, they announced that their protest would continue indefinitely. A family representative declared, “Our sit-in will continue until a case is registered.”
