A leading figure in Pakistan’s rice export industry has expressed his hope that the newly elected leadership of the Karachi Press Club will continue to advocate for the sector’s issues within government circles.
The call came from Rafiq Suleman, Convener of the FPCCI Standing Committee on Rice, in a statement on Sunday as he extended congratulations to the Democrats Panel for its decisive victory in the press club”s annual elections for 2026.
The former Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) asserted that the panel”s continued success is a clear reflection of its exemplary performance and the strong confidence of the membership.
Suleman lauded the incoming President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary Aslam Khan, and the seven individuals elected to the Governing Body: Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Hussain Soomro, Shaima Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Fareed Alam, and Javed Mehr.
He also commended the conduct of the election, describing the positive democratic traditions upheld among all participating groups as praiseworthy and an excellent example for others.
Highlighting the institution”s historical importance, Suleman noted that the Karachi Press Club has been a centre for journalists” historic struggles for their rights. He voiced his expectation that the new administration will, as in the past, continue its vital role in the promotion of journalism and democracy.
