Provincial authorities have issued a stern warning against hooliganism on New Year’s Eve and announced a zero-tolerance policy for aerial firing, one-wheeling, and public harassment under a comprehensive security plan. Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, confirmed on Sunday that any individual involved in such activities would be taken into custody.
To implement this directive across the province, the Punjab Police has finalized arrangements to deploy a contingent of over 25,000 officers and personnel to maintain law and order.
Law enforcement personnel will also utilize a network of CCTV cameras to monitor all activities and ensure a prompt response to any public disturbance.
According to the provincial police chief, special units, including the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PERU), Elite Force, and Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) teams, will increase their patrols on major roads and motorways.
The authorities emphasized that miscreants involved in hooliganism or harassing women and other citizens would be arrested immediately.
The police have also appealed to the public to play an active role in maintaining peace and have instructed them to report any incidents of one-wheeling, display of weapons, or aerial firing to the emergency helpline 15.
