Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has praised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for securing its highest-ever monthly tax collection, although the figure fell just short of the ambitious target set for December 2025.
Addressing the FBR team and its field formations through a video link conference today, the minister lauded the achievement of collecting one thousand four hundred twenty-seven point one billion rupees, which constitutes 99 per cent of the monthly goal of Rs 1,446 billion.
Mr Aurangzeb described the December performance as a “strong validation” of the government’s ongoing fiscal reform agenda. He attributed the record figures to a sustained focus on improved compliance, enforcement, and the progressive digitisation of the tax system.
Despite the record-breaking month, the finance minister urged the FBR’s field units to further intensify their efforts and “double down” on initiatives aimed at broadening and deepening the nation”s tax base.
He emphasised that enhancing tax compliance and strengthening enforcement mechanisms is the only sustainable way to alleviate the fiscal pressure on the country’s formal economic sector.
The minister concluded that the government’s strategy of digitising the economy, promoting cashless transactions, and reinforcing enforcement is beginning to deliver “tangible and sustainable results” while ensuring business momentum is maintained.
