A cross-party coalition of parliamentarians has voiced grave concerns over the significant psychological toll digital platforms are taking on the nation’s youth, demanding the immediate implementation of protective legislation, including age restrictions.
Speaking to media, the Members of Parliament raised an alarm regarding the pervasive influence of online networks, pressing for the adoption of laws similar to those enacted in other countries to shield youngsters, according to a report by MOIB on Sunday.
There was unanimous agreement among the members that social media is detrimentally affecting the concentration and decision-making capabilities of young people, creating a considerable psychological burden.
The legislators stressed the critical need for new regulations designed to enforce the responsible use of these platforms, thereby safeguarding future generations from potential harm.
Responding to the concerns, Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, affirmed the government”s commitment to the issue. “We cannot put the future of our youth at risk,” he stated, confirming the government is actively working on the matter.
The minister further disclosed that preliminary discussions have already been held within the Ministry of IT and assured that timely measures would be instituted to address the situation effectively.
