Iran does not desire war but is fully prepared to thwart any aggression with its complete might, its ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, stated during a media briefing, where he also disclosed that more than 3,100 people, including security forces personnel, lost their lives during recent violent protests in the country.
Speaking at the Embassy of Iran in Islamabad, the ambassador emphasised that his nation”s government and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei advocate for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve issues. However, he asserted Tehran’s fundamental right to self-defence against external aggression, conspiracies, and the nefarious designs of the enemy, according to an official statement today.
The envoy commended Pakistan”s efforts to mediate the US-Iran standoff, noting that the success of any such initiative is contingent on the conduct of the opposing party. He conveyed Iran”s gratitude to the government, people, and media of Pakistan for their support during the present difficult circumstances.
Addressing the recent violent demonstrations within Iran, Reza Amiri Moghadam said the government in Tehran acknowledges the people’s right to protest. He revealed that the Supreme Leader had instructed the government to resolve the protestors” problems, leading to an unprecedented invitation for representatives from the “protesting mob” to attend a cabinet meeting to address their grievances.
The ambassador confirmed that the situation across Iran is now normal and peace has been restored. He clarified that individuals arrested during the turmoil were allegedly funded and abetted from abroad and will be processed through the courts in accordance with Iranian law.
Detailing the extent of the damage, the envoy reported that the demonstrators had damaged and set fire to ambulances, busses, banks, government installations, educational institutions, and business centres.
He noted that Iran and Pakistan are in constant contact and maintain closer mutual collaboration regarding recent regional developments.
Reza Amiri Moghadam concluded by reaffirming that the government and people of Iran would stand resolute to defend the nation”s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
