Karachi’s Bahria College wins 9th Commissioner Karachi Girls Basketball Championship

Bahria College has secured a historic victory in the 9th Commissioner Karachi Girls Basketball Championship, defeating strong rivals Aram Bagh Club 18-10 in the decisive final after reaching the title match for the first time in nine years.

The championship final, held on Tuesday at the International Abdul Nasir Basketball Court in Aram Bagh, was organized by the Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) under the patronage of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi. The winning Bahria College team displayed exceptional skill, with Dua Batool, Raheema Irfan, and Javeria Khan delivering outstanding performances. The runner-up Aram Bagh Club team also presented a great game with the efforts of Fatima Idrees, Anaya Asif, and Afza Ali.

Earlier, in the third-position playoff match, defending champion PECHS Chapter BCP College defeated Dow Club by a score of 20-12 to secure their spot on the podium.

Individual honors recognized the tournament’s best players. Dua Batool of Bahria College was named the Best Player, while her teammate Raheema Irfan received the Best Scorer award. Fatima Idrees of Aram Bagh was declared the tournament’s Emerging Player.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Additional Commissioner Karachi Asadullah Khoso, who distributed valuable prizes, certificates, and medals worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. For the first time in Karachi’s basketball history, special cash prizes were presented by the Commissioner to 11 girls and 11 boys. In the parallel boys’ event, Hasan Ali was named the Best Player and Engineer Zainul Abidin Channa was declared the Best Scorer.

The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Naseem Hameed, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, and senior sports journalist Qamar Khan. A prayer was also offered for the late Abdul Nasir, the “Leader of Basketball,” on the occasion of his fifth death anniversary.

The matches were supervised by a team of technical officials and referees including Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Zahid Malik, and Zaeema Khatun, while Faisal Ali Khan served as the Championship Director. On behalf of the Commissioner Karachi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan thanked the media for their extensive coverage of the championship.
