Pakistan Decries Rights Abuses in Kashmir, Palestine at UN Human Rights Council

Pakistan has voiced grave concern over the aggravated human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Palestine, and Afghanistan, urging the international community to address the suppression of fundamental freedoms in these regions.

According to an official information today, representing Pakistan at the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Secretary Ministry of Human Rights, Abdul Khalique Shaikh, delivered a statement reaffirming the nation”s steadfast dedication to the promotion and protection of human rights.

The Secretary emphasised that human rights are not a luxury for favourable times but must be cherished amid global uncertainty and conflict. He reiterated Pakistan”s commitment to constructive engagement with the UN human rights framework as an elected member of the Council.

Underscoring that the principle of self-determination is “not for sale,” Mr. Shaikh stated that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir continue to be denied their inalienable rights as enshrined in the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.

He drew attention to the grave humanitarian situation in Palestine, warning that continued violence and impunity are further destabilising the region and undermining prospects for lasting peace.

Regarding Afghanistan, the Secretary highlighted the plight of women and girls, stressing that Islam must not be misused to justify the suppression of their rights.

Shaikh also expressed deep concern over rising religious intolerance in political discourse, particularly the growing trend of Islamophobia being used as a tool for prejudice against Muslims.

He urged the global community to increase its collective efforts to combat hatred, discrimination, and deep-seated inequalities. The statement concluded by confirming Pakistan’s commitment to advancing dialogue, multilateral cooperation, and universal respect for human rights.
