Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has called for deeper and sustained interfaith harmony as an essential tool to counter rising intolerance, hate, and bigotry across the world.
Speaking at a grand Interfaith Iftar Dinner, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stressed that meaningful people-to-people engagement is crucial for advancing a global culture of peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and compassion, according to information by MOIB today .
The event in New York brought together a diverse assembly of more than 500 participants, which included faith leaders, diplomats, public officials, professionals, youth leaders, and various community members.
The ambassador stated that Pakistan’s national heritage reflects centuries of pluralism and coexistence, serving as a crossroads where Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism have flourished alongside Islam, Christianity, and other faiths.
He highlighted that the nation has been recognised for advocating initiatives that promote interreligious understanding and peaceful coexistence on the international stage.
The senior diplomat pointed to Pakistan’s role in co-leading, along with the Philippines, a UN General Assembly resolution focused on the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding, and cooperation for peace.
