Jamaat-e-Islami Kissan Board alleged today that due to substandard seeds provided by fraudulent companies, the okra crop on thousands of acres has failed on a large scale, causing financial losses of millions of rupees to the growers.
Kissan Board Sindh’s Deputy General Secretary Engineer Syed Ali Mardan Shah Gilani identified Golarchi town as the main operational base for these fake seed entities originating from Punjab.
Gilani, who is also the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami District Badin, claimed, alleging that the Department of Agriculture facilitated these operations. He alleged that officials received bribes worth millions of rupees to issue licenses to the firms producing the substandard seeds, and termed it a ‘gross injustice’ to the farming community.
The growers’ representative issued several demands, urging the immediate cancellation of the operating licenses granted to these companies.
He further insisted that the involved firms should not only be blacklisted to prevent them from operating in the future but also be compelled to fully compensate the growers for their substantial financial losses.
