Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, today called upon the newly elected leadership of the National Press Club to take bold and prudent steps to address the challenges facing the journalist community, underscoring that a free and responsible press is indispensable for democratic stability and national development.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Senate Chairman extended heartfelt congratulations to the successful Democratic Panel, conveying his best wishes to the incoming President, Abdul Razzaq Sial, Secretary, Dr. Furqan Rao, and the newly elected Vice President, Usman Khan, who is also the former President of PRA Pakistan.
Mr Gilani praised the institution”s legacy, stating that the National Press Club has consistently played a pivotal role in the promotion of independent journalism and remains a vital pillar for the strengthening of democratic values within the nation.
He expressed his hope that the new office-bearers would discharge their professional responsibilities in an exemplary manner, working to meet the needs of their constituents.
The Chairman emphasised that free, informed, and responsible journalism is essential for public awareness and the country”s overall progress.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed that Parliament has always stood in solidarity with the journalist community. He noted that the legislature has undertaken effective legislation to ensure the rights, protection, and safety of media professionals, a process he affirmed will continue.
