Pakistan today categorically condemned all attacks on civilians and vital infrastructure, urging for immediate de-escalation and a complete cessation of hostilities following recent events, including attacks against Iran, that have dangerously heightened regional tensions.
The remarks were delivered by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a UN Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The ambassador stated that the deeply troubling developments have undermined regional stability and carry serious implications for international peace and security, as well as for the global economy and prosperity.
Mr Ahmad declared that the targeting of power plants, energy facilities, educational institutions, hospitals, and other essential civilian sites is unacceptable and must cease immediately, underscoring that de-escalation must be the top priority.
He specifically described the ongoing attacks on the “brotherly Gulf countries” as “totally unacceptable,” noting that Pakistan had strongly condemned them. The envoy also appreciated the strategic restraint shown by the GCC countries in the face of such provocation and aggression.
Reaffirming his nation”s stance, the representative assured of Pakistan”s full support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all GCC states.
At this critical juncture, Mr Ahmad stressed that restraint, diplomacy, and dialogue must prevail, confirming that Pakistan remains firmly committed to playing a constructive role in supporting all efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
