Pakistan, Turkey to Sign Historic Judicial Cooperation MoU Today

The higher judiciary of Pakistan and Turkey are set to formalize a significant judicial cooperation framework with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday, April 6, 2026.

A high-level delegation from the Republic of Trkiye’s Constitutional Court, led by its President, the Hon’ble Kadir Özkaya, is scheduled to visit Pakistan from 6 to 9 April for the historic signing. The delegation will also include other distinguished judges and senior officials.

The agreement is designed to establish a structured and forward-looking framework for collaboration, aiming to strengthen constitutional governance, uphold the rule of law, and reinforce judicial independence in both nations.

Key areas of the accord will centre on the professional development of the judiciary, especially at the district level, through joint training programmes, academic exchanges, and exposure to comparative judicial practices.

The collaboration will also support the integration of modern technologies into judicial processes, a move intended to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of justice for the public.

To ensure sustained engagement and effective implementation, the MoU envisages the establishment of a Joint Working Group to oversee the agreed-upon areas of cooperation.

During their four-day stay, the Turkish delegates will conduct high-level institutional interactions and meet with key justice sector stakeholders to discuss contemporary challenges in adjudication and reform-oriented initiatives.

The itinerary also includes cultural excursions to Taxila and the Walled City of Lahore, reflecting Pakistan’s rich heritage and underscoring the deep institutional and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The signing ceremony will be broadcast live from the Supreme Court to ensure public accessibility. It will be witnessed by judges from both courts, the Chief Justices of the High Courts, the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, the Attorney General for Pakistan, and representatives of the legal fraternity.

This initiative forms part of the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s wider strategy to promote a modern and responsive justice system, aligned with international best practices and committed to enhancing public trust.
