The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) today released a report on a remarkable financial recovery of 2.962 trillion rupees during the first quarter of 2026, showing a 33-fold increase compared to the 91.01 billion rupees recovered during the same period in 2025. This significant increase highlights the agency’s improved performance and capabilities following the implementation of reforms and the prioritization of operations.
Regional efforts played a significant role in these results. NAB Karachi and Sukkur played a key role in the recovery of 54,387 acres of public land, with an estimated value of 2.891 trillion rupees. Meanwhile, joint operations by NAB Lahore and Multan resulted in the recovery of 4,034 acres of state land, with an estimated value of 23.33 billion rupees.
Further cooperation came from NAB Balochistan, which restored 51,577 acres of state property, valued at 36.54 billion rupees, to government custody. In addition to land recovery, the Bureau also made direct financial recoveries of 11.085 billion rupees, obtained through plea bargains, auctions, and court-imposed fines.
In public fraud cases, 1.78 billion rupees were successfully returned to 6,475 affected individuals. This robust performance is attributed to NAB’s strategic focus on high-priority sectors, improved case management protocols, and strengthened inter-agency cooperation.
Looking ahead, NAB continues its efforts in partnership with provincial administrations. In Punjab, approximately 900,000 acres of government land, with an estimated value of 4.37 trillion rupees, have been identified for recovery. Similarly, in Sindh, 452,968 acres are being identified, with a value of 10.96 trillion rupees.
To accelerate these land recovery efforts, the governments of Punjab and Sindh have established special task forces, operating under the supervision of the Senior Member Board of Revenue. These measures are expected to ensure the legal settlement and return of public lands. This extensive provincial development highlights a collective resolve for asset recovery, aimed at promoting improved transparency and governance, and thereby strengthening public trust. NAB affirmed its commitment to upholding accountability with impartiality and transparency, promising to protect public assets and return illegally acquired funds and land to the national treasury.
