Federal and provincial governments must ensure supportive laws and a safe environment for journalists: President Asif Zardari

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has appealed to the federal and provincial administrations to guarantee robust legislation and a safe working environment for journalists, especially in areas where conditions are unstable.

This appeal, made via the social media platform X, emphasized the crucial need for the authorities to protect media professionals. The appeal came as the head of state paid tribute to those reporters who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of factual reporting.

Highlighting the inherent dangers of their profession, the President particularly acknowledged the profound sacrifices of journalists working in conflict-affected areas. He stated that these individuals sacrificed their lives in their commitment to provide information to the public.

The head of state’s announcement underscored the critical need for a proactive government strategy to strengthen the security and legal support available to the country’s journalists. Such a strategy would foster an environment where media professionals can perform their duties without fear or undue risk.
