Former Senator and PPP leader, Sassui Palijo said today that any attempt by federal authorities to potentially change Sindh’s unity and regional boundaries through the upper house of Parliament will face strong opposition. The people of Sindh are determined to reject any attack on the province’s harmony.
Concerns have been expressed over potential attempts to withdraw the 18th Constitutional Amendment or reduce the allocation of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, and Sindh is prepared to strongly oppose any such measures. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is expected to stand in defense of the 18th Amendment while safeguarding provincial autonomy.
Former Senator and PPP leader, Sassui Palijo emphasized today that depriving provinces of economic, financial, and fiscal autonomy under the guise of the 28th Constitutional Amendment would be a grave injustice. This issue is not limited to Sindh alone; all provinces, including Punjab, are requested to express their disapproval.
Palijo expressed her concerns over the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, describing them as contradictory. She highlighted that a draft of the 28th Amendment, considered a significant threat to provincial rights, is allegedly being prepared. Such developments are facing strong opposition at various levels.
The idea of changing provincial boundaries, potentially through a simple Senate bill, has been condemned by Sindh’s political leadership. Speaking in Jhimpir, Palijo expressed hope that the upcoming constitutional amendment would not include border changes. She reiterated that proposals to divide provinces into 12, four, or even eight units are unacceptable, advocating for the preservation of current boundaries.
In Sindh, any interference in the geographical division of provinces is considered intolerable, and the region’s leaders are determined to oppose such measures with the strength of a wall.
