During a significant development, the Model Criminal Trial Court of Khairpur today sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment for the crime of drug dealing. The court also imposed a heavy fine of 1.3 million rupees on the convicts, who were found guilty of possessing a large quantity of hashish.
The court, led by Judge Liaqat Ali Khoso, delivered the verdict on Wednesday, indicating a strict stance against drug-related crimes in the region. The convicted individuals, Zulqarnain Haider and Fazal Karim, were arrested by Khairpur police in early 2023. During the arrest, authorities recovered 50 kilograms of hashish.
The verdict also stated that if the fine is not paid, the convicts will face an additional six months of imprisonment, further highlighting the judiciary’s strict attitude. After the court’s decision, Haider and Karim were transferred to the central jail Khairpur under tight security arrangements.
This decision points to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies against drug smuggling and ensuring the delivery of justice, setting an example for similar cases in the future.
