PPP workers’ rally against their own UC Chairman, allegations of corruption

In Mirpur Khas, Pakistan Peoples Party workers have started a protest against their own party’s Union Council (UC) Chairman Hanif Memon today, citing a lack of basic facilities and accusing him of corruption.

Residents of Town Mir Sher Muhammad Talpur Union Council 7 Jamandas Baloch Para gathered at Baloch Para Chowk with members of the Pakistan Peoples Party to express their grievances. The protesters, led by party worker Mast Baloch and other local citizens, expressed their displeasure with the performance of the UC Chairman, as well as with the local MNA Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani and MPA Hari Ram Kishor Lal. They allege that their area has been neglected after the elections, even though their votes were secured.

The protesters leveled serious allegations against UC Chairman Hanif Memon, claiming that he misuses approximately 1.2 million rupees in development funds monthly, resulting in very little development within the Union Council. They highlighted the critical need for a 200 KVA transformer to address the issue of frequent power cuts, as the existing 100 KVA transformer results in prolonged power outages in the area.

Furthermore, the protesters drew attention to the acute shortage of clean drinking water, stating that the shortage is so severe that at times, water is not available for bathing the deceased, performing ablutions in mosques, or for domestic use. Despite numerous appeals to their elected representatives, the protesters claim that no remedial action has been taken.

Adding to their grievances, they alleged that they are consistently denied access to MPA Hari Ram’s office, preventing them from discussing their issues directly. The protesters are demanding that Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari take immediate action to address the issues of Union Council 7 Jamandas, ensure a transparent investigation into the alleged misuse of development funds, and hold UC Chairman Hanif Memon accountable for failing to resolve public issues.

The protesters have issued a stern warning that if the provision of electricity, water, and other essential services is not ensured, they plan to escalate their protest activities.
