A tragic incident occurred today in Mirpurkhas Central Jail where a prisoner named Muhammad Yousuf died in custody. Yousuf, who was the son of Ali Murad Talpur, passed away during treatment in the Cardio Ward of Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.
The prisoner, who was facing various charges, became seriously ill around 11 a.m. on Monday and was transferred from the jail to the emergency department of the hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was admitted to the Cardio Ward where he died during treatment.
Jail officials revealed that Yousuf had been in custody in Mirpurkhas Central Jail since July 4, following a judicial remand issued by the Civil Judge/Judicial Magistrate III Tando Allahyar. He was charged with offenses filed at the B Section Police Station in Tando Allahyar, including threats to kill, among other charges under the Pakistan Penal Code.
Legal proceedings are underway to determine the actual cause of Yousuf’s death. Based on the results of the investigation, a post-mortem may also be conducted. After all formalities are completed, his body is expected to be handed over to his family.
