Suspect Injured While Trying to Flee Arrest in Child Harassment Case

A man accused of harassing a minor girl was injured after his pistol accidentally went off while he allegedly tried to evade arrest during a police operation in Liaquatpur, Rahim Yar Khan district, police said on Monday.

Police said the suspect, identified as Ghulam Muhammad Gorgij, sustained a gunshot wound to his genital area when he attempted to pull a pistol from the waistband of his trousers as officers moved in to arrest him. The firearm discharged accidentally during the attempt, they said.

The suspect was taken into custody immediately after the incident and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Police said legal proceedings against him were continuing.

The operation was launched after District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Ali Samo took notice of a complaint alleging that the suspect had harassed a minor girl within the limits of the City Police Station in Liaquatpur and directed officers to arrest him without delay.

According to a police spokesperson, CCTV footage from Farid Colony’s Street No. 3 allegedly shows the suspect behaving inappropriately toward young girls passing through the area. The footage also appears to show frightened children running away while the suspect allegedly follows them.

DPO Samo said the police remained committed to a zero-tolerance policy toward offences involving women and children and vowed that those found responsible would be brought before the law.
