Today, a case has been registered against former employees and peaceful protesters of Keenjhar Lake in Thatta, accusing them of obstructing official duty, vandalism, and unrest.
This complaint was filed by STDC Incharge Makhdoom Gulzar, which includes the names of seven individuals, including Sarwar Kathia, Mushtaq Kathia, Nazir Kathia, and Asad Kathia, along with 53 unnamed villagers. The police have begun the process of arresting them after identification, increasing pressure on the community.
To manage the situation, Provincial Minister Syed Riaz Shah Shirazi visited the affected site and met with the dismissed employees and local protesters. He promised to work with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for their reinstatement and job security.
The legal action has sparked widespread condemnation from various quarters, including Karachi Bar President Ameer Nawaz Waraich, Thatta District Bar Association, and political parties such as Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Awami Tehreek, JSQM, JSM, and Qaumi Awami Tehreek. These groups have demanded the immediate reinstatement of long-serving local employees and the withdrawal of charges against them.
As tensions rise, the situation at Keenjhar Lake highlights broader concerns regarding employment security and legal rights in the area.
