Sindh Governor Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met a delegation of the Constructors Association of Pakistan (CAP) at Governor House Karachi today. The delegation was led by CAP Chairman Syed Afzal-ur-Rehman. Former CAP Chairman Naeem Siddiqui, FPCCI Central Construction Committee Convener Syed Raza Ali Abidi, Syed Abid Hussain Burney, Shaiq Ahmed, Engineer Rahim Ahmed Insaf, Syed Shafee Haider Kazmi, Farooq Azam, and other members were also present.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised the Governor Sindh of issues faced by the construction sector, particularly those relating to the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), including the matter of double taxation. They also highlighted irregularities in the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) procedures and the e-PAD procurement system.
The delegation requested the Governor’s support in recommending the release of funds by the Sindh Government for development projects that have remained incomplete for the past 10 to 12 years due to financial constraints. They also sought his assistance in taking up the matter with the Federal Government regarding the establishment of a Construction Industry Development Board.
The meeting featured a detailed discussion on the challenges confronting the construction industry and possible measures to address them. Hashmi assured the delegation that he would play every possible role in resolving the issues facing the construction sector and would support efforts to ensure greater transparency in the execution of development projects.
He said that the doors of Governor House are always open to the business community and the construction industry. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to provide a conducive environment and maximum facilitation for investors and businesses. He added that both the Federal and Provincial Governments are maintaining continuous consultations with business organizations to develop effective and sustainable solutions to their concerns.
