Construction of the Pipri Multi-Logistics Park is being expedited under the Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force. It will improve cargo movement, port connectivity and the overall logistics network.
According to Project Director National Logistics Corporation Sindh Engineer Altaf Qadir Bajwa, the Rs2.46 billion project is currently under construction through a collaboration between the NLC and DP World. A 1.5 kilometre railway link is being built to connect Port Qasim and Karachi Port.
He said a railway freight container terminal and multi-logistics park is being established at Pipri. The project includes the construction of warehouses, container storage facilities, vehicle parking areas and administrative blocks.
A 37,700 square metre hardstanding area will accommodate up to two hundred and sixty containers and trucks simultaneously. Trailers arriving from upcountry will be transferred to the Pipri Logistics Park, from where cargo will be transported to the ports by rail.
The project is expected to help reduce the influx of 250 to 500 trailers entering Karachi.
