Under the leadership of Awami Tehreek, a rally was held today on the third consecutive day in Mithal Khan Chandio village, where protesters are opposing controversial water projects in Punjab, including the Jalalpur Canal, TP, and CG Link Canal. These projects are accused of obstructing Sindh’s water supply, causing significant concern among local communities.
The rally was led by Awami Tehreek figures such as Comrade Muhammad Rafi Laghari, Hameed Inqilabi, and Mukhtiar Chandio, with farmers, agricultural workers, and youth marching from Mithal Khan Chandio to Sam Shakh. Protesters claim that both federal and Sindh authorities are colluding to harm Sindh’s economic and agricultural stability.
Speakers at the rally alleged that Punjab, in collaboration with the Pakistan People’s Party, is deliberately creating a water shortage, negatively impacting agriculture and the region’s economy. They are demanding a halt to these controversial canal projects and appealing for the restoration of Sindh’s rightful water distribution under the 1945 water agreement.
