A convict sentenced to 10 years for possession of hashish from Khairpur court, another acquitted due to insufficient evidence

An important legal development occurred in Khairpur today when the local court sentenced Zubair Ahmed Bhalim to ten years in prison for possession of hashish, while the other accused, Ali Mardan, was acquitted on the grounds of insufficient evidence.

Judge Liaquat Ali Khoso of the Khairpur Criminal Model Court, while delivering the verdict, sentenced Bhalim to ten years in prison and a fine of one lakh rupees for possession of 1100 grams of intoxicating material. The court’s decision emphasizes a strict stance against drug-related crimes.

In contrast, Ali Mardan was acquitted of all charges when the court criticized the police for failing to provide any solid evidence against him. The judge deemed Mardan’s inclusion in the case incorrect and called for disciplinary action against the investigating officer (SHO) and the involved police team.

Judge Khoso further instructed the Prosecutor General of Sindh and other relevant authorities to present a comprehensive report within a month. This report will be circulated to all SHOs to prevent future false accusations against innocent individuals.

Following the court’s decision, Zubair Ahmed Bhalim was immediately transferred to the Khairpur Central Jail to serve his sentence. Both individuals were arrested approximately eighteen months ago by the Gambat police, who claimed to have seized 1100 grams of hashish.

The case highlights the importance of careful evidence gathering in judicial proceedings and the severe consequences of false accusations.
