Acid attack woman dies in Karachi

KARACHI: A woman, who was attacked with acid in Panu Aqil, succumbed to her burn injuries in a Karachi hospital on Sunday.

According to a report, a man threw acid on his wife Farzana Mirani, aged 35, and their eight-year-old daughter Yusra Mirani a month ago. The body of little girl was badly burnt and she died in the Gambat Hospital a month ago. However, her mother Farzana received sever burn injuries but had survived.

She was under treatment at a Karachi hospital, where she died of injuries. The police have registered a case against the fleeing accused. According to the report, Farzana’s husband, father-in-law and other were accused of throwing acid on the sleeping mother and daughter on a property row in Panu Aqil.

More than 9,000 people between 1994 and 2022 have been victims of acid attacks in Pakistan, the vast majority of them being females. The number of unreported cases of acid attacks in Pakistan is higher than the official number of cases reported to local police since victims refrain from reporting their cases to local police due to their fear of reprisal.
