Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, has assured veteran actress Meera that she will be appointed a goodwill ambassador, formally acknowledging her request during a recent interaction at the minister’s office.

According to an official report today, the minister during the call-on meeting also commended both Meera and film producer Salman Butt for their substantial contributions to the Pakistani film sector and their efforts in promoting local cinema on international stages.

Mr Khichi lauded Mr Butt”s venture to produce motion pictures specifically for overseas Pakistanis, hailing it as a progressive step towards the revival and globalisation of the national film industry.

‘Although the films sector comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Cultural Ministry will also provide necessary support within its domain,’ the minister affirmed, pledging governmental backing for the industry.

He emphasised that such projects not only generate opportunities for domestic talent but are also instrumental in enhancing Pakistan’s cultural image globally. Highlighting the significance of cultural diplomacy, Minister Khichi stated that cinema serves as a vital medium for projecting the nation”s soft image to the world.

Aurangzeb Khichi further acclaimed Meera for her consistent engagement in significant and challenging roles, observing that her work on new film projects signifies the resilience and evolving strength of Pakistani cinema. He noted that performers like Meera function as crucial cultural ambassadors for the country.

The discussion also touched upon the upcoming film ‘Psycho,’ which is slated for release soon. Following the main meeting, Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division, Asad Rehman Gilani, received a detailed briefing on the new movie and echoed the minister”s praise for the duo”s work.

In response, actress Meera expressed her gratitude to the minister and secretary for their assurance of cooperation in revitalising the film industry. She described the Cultural Ministry”s role under Mr Khichi’s leadership as commendable and voiced her hope for its continued backing in film promotion.
