Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan extends invitation to Dr Fehmida Mirza to attend opening ceremony of South Asian Games, 2019

Islamabad, November 20, 2019 (PPI-OT): Her Excellency Sewa Lamsal, ambassador of Nepal called on Dr Fehmida Mirza, Federal Minister for IPC. Ambassador formally extended invitation to Dr Fehmida Mirza to attend opening ceremony of 2019 South Asian games which are to be held in Nepal from 1-10 December 2019. Ambassador said that sports are strong and powerful means to promote peace. All member countries have given positive response of invitation from Nepal.

Sports lead to integration of people and players, and project soft image of the country. Dr Fehmida stressed the importance of the event for all SAARC member countries as it would provide opportunity for countries in region to come close not only in sports but also in other areas. She expressed her pleasure that finally the event is going to be conducted and highlighted the importance of sports diplomacy.

Saying that not only it provides a platform of cooperation to all SAARC member states, but also will lead to strengthening of democratic system in Nepal as it is gaining its roots. Highlighting the significance of South Asian games Minister stated that camps were being set up for a big contingent that will be participating in various disciplines. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, tourism, sports and climate change related issues. Concluding the meeting, Minister emphasised the importance of games for building cooperation among South Asian countries and thanked Nepal for invitation as it would energise and boost the spirit of the athletes.
