A prominent scholar has urged for the immediate establishment of a legal and ethical framework based on Islamic Sharia to regulate artificial intelligence, warning that technology, despite its extraordinary capabilities, can never be a substitute for human conscience.
Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, delivered this message today while presenting a paper at the 36th International Conference held in Egypt in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Awqaf.
The conference, held on the theme “The Ethics of Arts and Crafts in Islam, Their Impact, and Their Future in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” was attended by renowned scholars, intellectuals, and economists from around the world.
Dr. Qadri emphasized that while modern communication methods and scientific inventions are not in conflict with Islam, there is a need for essential ethical training for their use. He described artificial intelligence as a tool whose direction and limits must be determined under the objectives of Sharia to ensure justice, transparency, and the protection of human dignity.
Discussing the challenges of the digital age, he specifically pointed out the protection of consumer rights in e-commerce. He warned that misleading information creates opportunities for exploitation, emphasizing the need for transparent oversight and responsible use of data.
To address these issues, Dr. Qadri proposed the formulation of clear legislation and policies. He encouraged the countries of the Ummah to move forward by benefiting from each other’s experiences in this field.
Furthermore, he advocated for the inclusion of artificial intelligence as a compulsory subject in educational curricula to better prepare future generations.
The proposals presented by Professor Dr. Qadri were well-received by the conference participants, who described them as practical and necessary.
At the end of the event, Dr. Qadri also held meetings with renowned academics and senior government officials of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
