Music discovery has been fundamentally altered as Spotify integrates its massive audio library directly into the ChatGPT interface, allowing millions of users to generate personalized playlists and receive song recommendations simply by typing a request into the popular AI chatbot.

According to a report today, this fresh collaboration is now active in English across 145 nations for users of ChatGPT’s Free, Plus, and Pro tiers on both web and mobile platforms. Subscribers of Spotify”s Free and Premium services can link their accounts to the AI, enabling them to request music selections based on mood, genre, or specific artists and then listen to the curated tracks directly within the Spotify application.

The move aligns with Spotify”s long-standing vision to be ubiquitous. “By bringing Spotify into ChatGPT, we’re creating a powerful new way for fans to connect with the artists and creators they love conversationally, whenever inspiration strikes,’ stated Sten Garmark, SVP and Global Head of Consumer Experience. This partnership extends the streaming giant”s presence, which already spans over 2,000 devices.

This feature presents a novel avenue for listeners to unearth new music or rediscover old favorites through simple conversational prompts, such as asking for a playlist of emerging local musicians or finding a track that matches a specific feeling. For musical artists, the integration offers a new, AI-driven platform for their work to be discovered.

In a significant move to protect intellectual property, Spotify confirmed that none of its music, podcasts, or other audio content will be shared with its partner, OpenAI, for the purpose of training artificial intelligence models. This ensures that the work of artists and creators remains safeguarded throughout this new user experience.
