Arundhati Roy concerned over IOK situation

Jalandhar (India), November 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): Noted author, Arundhati Roy, has expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in occupied Kashmir and stressed the need for intellectuals to speak up. Arundhati Roy speaking on Kashmir dispute on the second day of Mela Ghadri Babeyan Da in Jalandhar city of Indian state of Punjab said, “I’m very ashamed about Kashmir. I can’t say ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan’. The silence on Kashmir is deafening. It’s our fight too. While there should have been potent opposition, no one spoke up. Very few journalists have spoken about it. The country needs a new movement and a new media out of it.”

She said, “Kashmir has been under the densest military occupation for the past 30 years. All this is being done in our name. In August, right after the abrogation of special status, the biggest searches on Google were ‘getting a Kashmiri girl’ and ‘getting land in Kashmir’. It is disgusting.” Arundhati Roy, along with Editor of The Wire, Siddharth Varadarajan, was the key speaker during the second and concluding day of the mela.
