ATC grants bail to Nazir Chauhan, others

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nazir Chauhan and seven others in a case of attacking and firing shots at a police party.

ATC Judge Amber Gul Khan pronounced the verdict, accepting the bail petition of Nazir Chauhan and others over submission of surety bonds of Rs100,000 by each of them. Sardar Akbar Dogar Advocate presented arguments before the court on behalf of Nazir Chauhan, stating: “Police arrested Nazir Chauhan in a false, politically motivated case as no incident of attack and firing on the police party ever took place.”

Deputy Prosecutor Amjad Javed had requested the court to reject the bail petition of the accused. It is to be noted here that PML-N leader Nazir Chauhan, his son Saad Nazir, Abid Ali, Qamar Abbas, Rafaqat Ali, Qasim Ali, Hafiz Rizwan and Faisal Maqbool had filed a post-arrest bail petition. They were accused of attacking and firing shots at a police party. Chung police had registered a case against Nazir Chauhan and others.
