Balochistan Braces for Heatwave as Met Office Issues Warning

The Meteorological Department’s Quetta Regional Center on Friday issued a heatwave warning for several districts of Balochistan, forecasting unusually high temperatures from May 7 to May 11, 2026.

According to the advisory, heatwave-like conditions are expected in Kech, Awaran, Labella, Panjgur, Sohbatpur, Usta Muhammad, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Dera Bugti, Kachhi, Washuk, Kharan, Chaghi, and parts of Hub and Gwadar due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere.

The Met Office stated that under the influence of the prevailing meteorological conditions, both daytime and nighttime temperatures are likely to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal in the affected regions.

Authorities strongly advised the general public, particularly children, women and senior citizens, to adopt precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.

People have been urged to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during daytime hours, especially between 11:00am and 5:00pm, and to remain properly hydrated. Farmers were also advised to plan agricultural activities carefully in view of the expected weather conditions and ensure adequate care and water supply for livestock.

The advisory further stressed the need for judicious use of water in all aspects of life amid the soaring temperatures. Citizens were cautioned against consuming food items that may cause dehydration and advised not to drink excessively icy-cold beverages, which could negatively impact health.

The Met Office also recommended wearing lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, while those needing to go outdoors were urged to cover their heads with cloth, hats or umbrellas for protection from extreme heat.
