The Balochistan government today initiated a high-level intervention to address significant challenges affecting local union councils, with Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti ordering the formation of a special committee to investigate and resolve these grassroots problems.
The directive followed a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday, where a delegation of Chairmen and representatives from various Local Government Union Councils apprised the Chief Minister of the pressing difficulties they face.
In response to the concerns raised, Chief Minister Bugti mandated the establishment of a committee headed by the Secretary of the Finance Department. The Secretary of the Local Government Department will serve as a member of this high-level body.
The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the matters presented by the local government officials. It will prepare a detailed report with actionable recommendations aimed at ensuring the effective resolution of problems at the most local level of administration.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that effective and practical measures would be taken to resolve the legitimate issues of the union councils. He also noted that his administration was already making progress on several demands previously put forward by the representatives.
Mr Bugti made it clear that while his government would not make any promise that could not be practically fulfilled, all legitimate demands from the union councils would be given serious consideration.
