The Balochistan Grand Alliance (BGA) on Tuesday announced its plan to hold province-wide protests on February 8, 2026, following the government’s failure to provide a positive response to the demands of its employees. The declaration was made amid accusations that the administration is forcing public sector workers onto the streets.
Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, Awami National Party (ANP) Balochistan President, Asghar Khan Achakzai, stated that while contact had been established with the government regarding the BGA’s requests, no constructive feedback has been received from the authorities.
He emphasised that it is the administration’s fundamental responsibility to listen to and resolve the problems of its workforce. Mr Achakzai contended that government employees were being “pushed against the wall” and their demands were entirely legitimate, providing the justification for the upcoming demonstrations.
The ANP leader referenced a prior action on January 31, 2026, when protestors approached the Balochistan Chief Minister’s residence. He claimed Balochistan had been ‘disconnected from rest of the country’ and criticised the government for pointing fingers at others instead of fulfilling its duties, adding, ‘Our mothers and sisters have been forced to take up arms.’
The press conference was attended by a coalition of political figures, including Provincial President of the Pushtunkhwa National Awami Party, Nasrullah Zaree; central leader of the Balochistan National Party, Musa Baloch; and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Balochistan President, Dawood Shah Kakar. Also present were Ismail Khan Kasi, the Acting President of the Balochistan Grand Alliance; Ghulam Nabi Marri, the District President of Balochistan National Party-Mengal, Quetta; and Dad Muhammad Baloch.
