Bank of China – Pakistan Operations holds a Pre-Departure Briefing for 1st China International Import Expo

Islamabad, October 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): Bank of China – Pakistan Operations held a Pre-Departure Briefing for 1 st China International Import Expo (CIIE) at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. Mr. Qamar Zaman, Director General of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Mr. Liu Zhan, Counselor of Chinese Consulate-General in Lahore and Mr. Wang Jian, Economic and Commercial Counsel of China in Lahore were the guests of honor in the briefing. The briefing was attended by top exporters of Pakistan based in Lahore. Dr. Li Tao, Country Head and CEO, Bank of China – Pakistan Operations expressed his gratitude to the participants for attending the pre-departure briefing.

In his address, he highlighted significance of 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE) and mentioned that CPEC is open to all neighbouring countries to join and become a part of an inclusive growth story. The scope of development under CPEC will now shift from Government sector cooperation to Public Private Partnerships (PPP). He reiterates the importance of the role of Small and Medium Enterprises in the Economic Growth of a country. Bank of China will make all necessary efforts in this respect to give access to the credit facilities for Small and Medium Enterprises.

He specially thanked Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for c0llaberating with Bank of China – Pakistan Operations in organizing the initial briefing and was optimistic of CIIE being a huge success. Mr. Qamar Zaman, Director General of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), while speaking to the conference, mentioned that TDAP is holding a Pakistan Trade and Investment Conference in Shangrilla Hotel on 5th Nov.

This conference holds special importance as about 250 Chinese companies will be participating in the conference alongside Pakistani delegates. TDAP will also collaborate with Bank of China to hold B2B sessions on Nov 6th, 7th and 8th at the CIIE convention center. He further stated that Chinese government is currently offering incentives to their companies for relocation and expanding industry. Many Chinese firms have expanded operations to Karachi.

CIIE offers wide opportunities to business communities and TDAP and Bank of China aim to make this exhibition fruitful for both parties. During the session, a brief introduction of Bank of China Pakistan Operations and its role in ‘2018 China International Imports Exhibition (CIIE)’ was presented to the members. Participants were told about Bank of China Financial Services Solution which focuses on various types of specialized and customized products for the exhibitors, including remittances financing, guarantees and match-making services.

During the briefing, in-depth information was provided to the exporters about the matchmaking services offered by Bank of China explicitly for CIIE. Browsing the buyers list, sending out and accepting invitations from potential buyers was the highlight of matchmaking system that aims to connect buyers from China and suppliers from the participating countries in CIIE. Bank of China aims to make CIIE a successful, excellent and long-lasting event.

Delegates of about 40 top exporters from Pakistan will accompany the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Imran Khan and his team to Shanghai for CIIE which is scheduled to take place at National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai from Nov 5 th – 10 th , 2018. A similar pre-departure briefing also took place in Karachi in Bank of China Karachi Branch on 22nd Oct, 2018 and was attended by Mr. Guo Chunshui, Ec0nomic and Commercial Consul of China in Karachi, Mr Kaleem Memon, Deputy Director TDAP along with top exporters based in Karachi. Furthermore, events for enterprises in Sialkot and Islamabad are scheduled on 25 th and 26 th October, 2018.
