BD-Pakistan Academic Mission Ends

A high-level academic delegation from Bangladesh has concluded a week-long visit to Pakistan, marking a significant step toward enhancing academic cooperation and strengthening institutional ties between higher education establishments in the two countries.

According to a report today, during the final phase of the visit, the delegation toured Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar; Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar; the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar; and the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar. The delegates also visited the National University of Technology (NUTECH), Islamabad, where they held comprehensive discussions with university leadership and faculty members on potential areas of academic collaboration. On the last day of the tour, the delegation visited Kohsar University Murree before travelling to Nathia Gali to experience Pakistan’s scenic landscape.

Earlier in the visit, the delegation toured Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro; Iqra University, Karachi; NED University of Engineering and Technology; the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi; and the HEJ International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi. The delegates also met Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar at the Higher Education Commission (HEC), in addition to holding meetings with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Additional Secretary Asia Pacific Syed Asad Ali Gillani. During their visit to the HEC Secretariat, the delegation received briefings on the commission’s functions and activities and met HEC Chairman Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar along with other senior officials.

The visit featured extensive academic engagements and interactive sessions involving university administrators, faculty members, and researchers. Discussions centred on faculty exchange programmes, student mobility initiatives, semester-based exchanges, bilateral scholarships, joint research projects, and the organisation of collaborative academic conferences and seminars.

Participants from both Pakistan and Bangladesh underscored the importance of such exchanges in identifying mutually beneficial opportunities and strengthening institutional partnerships. They expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to transforming these engagements into practical collaborative initiatives. Both sides agreed that sustained academic exchanges and institutional visits would play a vital role in deepening educational cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding relationship between the two countries. They also pledged to broaden future engagements aimed at promoting knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and people-to-people connectivity.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with academic institutions from both countries expressing confidence in future partnerships and a shared commitment to advancing higher education cooperation across the region.
