Caretaker Minister Environment Jameel Yusuf visit/ held meeting with Environment, Coastal Development Officers

Karachi, July 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Caretaker Minister for Environment, Costal Development and Climate Change Mr. Jameel Yusuf, presided over the introductory briefing of Department of Environment, Climate Change and Costal Development Authority today, He emphasizing the officers to ascertain the tracking system in boats of the coastal fishermen for their development and prosperity on priority.

To take practical steps before that goals can be achieved by completing the development tasks in the Coastal Areas of Distt, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin respectively at the time of monsoon. While addressing the departmental briefing, he further added that to take concrete steps for friendly and conducive environment for the industrial boost and make it favourable for industrial and economic development of the country.

Secretary Environment Mukhtiar Ahmed Soomro, has said that there should be joint process of implementation of environmental laws through cooperation and assistance for the development of industrial sector by providing the SEPA need to work more efficiently and effectively.

DG Coastal Development Authority Ishaq Mahar and Sheryar Qazi apprised the meeting about various development schemes, including 50-acre palm oil production consisting of 979.575 million development schemes. They further briefed that work with the help of domestic and private sector for more projects in coastal areas. Now there is a need for efficient communication and coordination in the Coastal Areas in the Monsoon season, for which we can benefit from contacting NGOs and the organizations to give them timely welfare and help.

Additional Director General Environment Naeem Mughal emphasized the cooperation of Civil Society and Institutions on the various schemes and programs under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to improve the environment and industrial boost in the province. He further said that after the 18th amendment, the Industrial Sector under SEPA Act is working to implement the enforcement of environmental laws and cooperation, in this context, help and cooperation is required from all respective stake holders. Though the implementation of the law enforcement process is slow but it is taking steps to make it effective and quick disposal, the provisions available in the law. But for implementation, all stakeholders are in touch with the task.

Caretaker Environment Minister Jameel Yousuf has directed that all the pending NOCs related to industrial sector should be released by scrutiny as soon as possible, so that the economy of the country can increase its role in promoting industrial sector. He also directed the environmental officers to perform their duties in accordance with the law and to take action against complaints, encourage the industrial sector to become more and more economically and viable and do not delay in paying social responsibilities jointly.

The Minister for Environment, Coastal Development Jameel Yousuf has further said that during the monsoon, cleaning of sewage and other drains in the light of the directions of the water commission, Instructions should be issued to the concerned authorities that they should do and dispose them in appropriate places that it can be properly handled by respective civic agencies timely. He further said that to induct prominent and local eminent members who are experts in the field of coastal and environment, to make the Coastal Development Board more stronger and beneficial.
