Largest school of Larkana goes without principal

LARKANA: The largest school of Larkana city namely Government Pilot Higher Secondary Boys School is running without Principal for last over four months showing how serious is the government in its ‘education emergency’.

This big school lack many facilities. As many as 5000 students are enrolled in this school for whom only one water drinking facility is available. Out of its 10 washrooms only five are functional.

Deedar Ali Mugheri had been posted as principal of the school who retired from government service on September 06, 2017 and since then his charge is being held by DEO.

The school has 45 classrooms where 130 teachers are posted to impart education to over 5000 students from class VI to XII.

There are three posts of sweepers, but only two are working and the third vacancy is yet to be filled.

The school has only one water tank which cannot cater drinking water needs of thousands of students.

The work of constructing a stadium in school ground has not yet been completed though this construction was initiated in 2009 by Sindh Government’s Sports department due to which during break students cannot play.

Ten poles have been installed in the ground where neither search lights are installed nor electric connection provided to them.

Vice Principal of the school Imamuddin Solangi told reporters here on Wednesday that principal has not yet been posted and the school is facing multifarious problems including cleanliness, electricity, drinking water facilities, washrooms and so forth.

He said he is also facing the issues because he has not been given DDO powers. He said that only two sweepers have been posted out of which one is regular and another has recently been appointed whose performance is not satisfactory.

He said the names of some most suitable teachers have already been sent to the government for posting as principal but the post is still vacant despite passage of long time.

He suggested that the principal should be appointed immediately for smooth running of this 99 years old school of Larkana.

However, District Education Officer Akhtar Korejo said that the post of principal is of basic pay scale 19, adding soon promotion of teachers will be made and then a suitable person will be posted on the vacant slot.

Korejo further said that education department has nothing to do with the project of school stadium as the same ground has been handed over to the sports department which has to complete the leftover work.
