Norwegian delegation visits historical town Uch Sharif

Bahawalpur:Norwegian Counsellor Ms Elin Anita Kylvag along with her husband and daughter visited historical town Uch Sharif.

According to a statement issued on Monday, an eight members delegation of the Royal Embassy of Norway Islamabad arrived at the residence of President Chamber of Agriculture Commerce South Punjab Sheikh Nasar Saleem’s in Uch Sharif early in the morning where he hosted a breakfast in their honour. Norwegian Counsellor Ms Elin Anita Kylvag and his companions and family members visited the historical tomb of Bibi Jawindi which is one of the five monuments in Uch Sharif and is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

President Chamber of Agriculture South Punjab Sheikh Nasar Saleem drew the attention of Norwegian Counsellor towards Bahawalpur district remote areas burning issues. He informed her about the rich cultural heritage of town Uch Sharif and urged her to establish a hotel and recreation park for tourists and zaireens in collaboration with Pakistan’s Tourism Department either in town Uch Sharif or near motorway interchange.

He suggested to install large size “Water Filtration Plants” in the remote areas of Bahawalpur district where underground drinking water is injurious to the health of the masses. Sheikh Nasar Saleem also proposed for the allocation of quota for the students of Bahawalpur district in national and international scholarships of the Norway’s embassy. Norwegian Counsellor gave patient hearing to Sheikh Nasar Saleem ‘s public demands and assured to consider his proposals for the betterment of the downtrodden of the people of Bahawalpur district.

Before leaving for Fort Derawar, Norwegian entourage visited Agha Khan Health Centre in Uch Sharif run by Sheikh Nasar Saleem’s family, where Sheikh Nasar Saleem briefed them about the 35 years old service of this centre for ailing humanity. After a short stay at Uch Sharif, Norwegian diplomats drove to historical Fort Derawar in Cholistan, where they visited royal graveyard of the former Abbasi rulers of princely Bahawalpur State besides Fort Derawar. Police contingents were deployed for the security of Norwegian diplomats.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan calls on Gen Bajwa

RAWALPINDI:Thomas West, United States (US) Special Representative for Afghanistan, called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at GHQ, today, according to a statement issued by the ISPR.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, current security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation opportunities in the context were discussed. COAS said that the world and the region cannot afford an unstable Afghanistan, stressing upon need for global convergence to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe.

COAS thanked the dignitary for participating in the 17th Extraordinary Session of Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for effective Pak-Afghan border management and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels. He hailed Pakistan’s efforts for organizing CFM’s 17th Extraordinary Session of OIC.

Woman killed, 21 injured as coach overturns

NOKUNDI:One woman was killed and 21 others, including women and children, injured, after a Taftan-bound passenger coach coming from Quetta overturned near Jozak area on Quetta-Taftan highway in Nokundi area of Baluchistan province on Sunday.

According to Tehsildar Nokundi, Qazi Pervaiz, Taftan-bound passenger coach turned turtle near Jozak area on Quetta- Taftan highway of Nokundi, resultantly, one woman namely Mst Musarat died while 21 others, including women and children, sustained injuries.

The injured, identified as Tauseef Haider, Sajjad Hussain, Muhammad Arif, Usra Bibi, Mubasir, Aalia, Fakhira, Syed Tahir Shah, resident of Chinoot, Punjab, Atiya, Rahat, Badu Khan, resident of Therparker, Sindh, Shafey Muhammad, resident of Kharan, Balochistan, Abdul Kabeer, Falbandin, Bughdad Khan, Ahmed Shah, Yaseen, Faiza, resident of Yaftan, Abdul Nasir, Farhad, resident of Dalbandin and Syed Safiulkah, resident of Pishin, were shifted to a nearby hospital where after providing initial treatment, critically injured were referred to Quetta for further treatment.

Levies recovers stolen vehicle

PISHIN:Levies Force, Pishin claimed to have recovered a stolen vehicle in an operation conducted in Pishin area of the province on Sunday.

Following the directions of Assistant Commissioner, Pishin, Ejaz Sarwar, staff of Levies Force, Pishin led by Tehsildar Pishin, Abdul Ghafar Notezai and Naseebullah, Naib Risaldar, Pishin recovered a Probex vehicle No. PBU 786, which had been stolen from Bund Khusdil Khan area of Pishin, in an operation conducted in Pishin area of Balochistan province. The recovered vehicle was handed over to the investigation wing of levies force, Pishin for further investigation.

Martyred constable’s relatives protest for justice

LARKANA:The relatives of martyred constable Nawab Ali Jatoi held a large protest demonstration for the second consecutive day at their Shadan Jatoi village demanding arrest of all the accused involved in the killing of their loved one. They shouted slogans against police failure to arrest the accused.

While talking with media persons, brothers of the deceased including Dilawar Jatoi, Murad Ali Jatoi and other villagers said that five days ago two police officials were martyred in an alleged encounter with criminals who include Nawab Jatoi and ASI Muzaffar Khoso in Wada Mahar village located within the limits of Akil @ Pir Sher Police Station and one criminal Raja Mahar was also gunned down but police have done nothing as yet to arrest the accused.

They alleged that accused persons have backing and support of the PPP Bakrani taluka President Tariq Anwer Siyal, who is brother of former provincial minister Suhail Anwer Siyal due to which police have done nothing as yet. They demanded that all the accused involved in the killing of the police officials must be arrested without loss of time or else they will continue their protest till they are brought to justice.

FM Shibli Faraz escapes unhurt in gun attack

KOHAT:Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz escaped unhurt in a gun attack in Darra Adam Khel area of Kohat district on Sunday.

According to details, the incident happened when the federal minister was travelling back to Peshawar after visiting his hometown Kohat. Armed assailants fired shots at a vehicle of Shibli Faraz and ran away from the scene.

The PTI leader remained unhurt in a gun attack while his driver got injured which was shifted to Peshawar hospital. The police have launched an investigation into the alleged attack. Moments after the news broke, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter and confirmed that Faraz had been attacked by gunmen at Darra Adam Khel.

PML-N activist complains of harassment and political vandetta in Larkana

LARKANA:Retired employee of health department Gul Hassan Bhutto, resident of Bangul Dero, while addressing a press conference at Larkana press club here on Sunday said that he is an old worker of PML-Nawaz Youth Wing of Larkana and has also served the party as its President, Ratodero Taluka but he has been subjected to political vandetta and discrimination.

He alleged that ex-district Larkana PPP president Abdul Fattah Bhutto along with my elder brother and former bureaucrat Ghulam Qadir Bhutto have forcibly encroached on my eight acre agriculture land and house since sometime. He said different cases were registered against him at various police stations of bike theft, extortion etc. and I was constantly harassed. He said even a petition was filed against me in the court. He further alleged that they even hired a private killer to murder me. He said I made a complaint to former SSP Masood Bangash but nothing was done.

He said JUI-Fazal leader Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro finally decided the matter which I accepted but I am constantly pressured to leave PML-Nawaz and join PPP. He said I may be provided protection from Fatah Bhutto and my brother as I and my family feel highly unprotected, my agricultural land and house may be retrieved and handed over to me and dispense justice.
