Railways to launch 2nd freight train

Karachi:Pakistan Railways and Marine Group are set to launch the 2nd freight train on traders’ demand.

Ministry of Railways in coordination with Marine Group of companies is set to launch the 2nd scheduled freight train service, said a spokesperson from Marine Group of companies.

The inauguration ceremony will be held at Cantt station and Federal minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad will inaugurate the 2nd cargo train from Karachi to Lahore.

The freight train project has been initiated by Marine Group through an agreement with Pakistan Railways Freight Transport Company, (PRFTC).

Pakistan’s first ever freight cargo train service in private sector with public private agreement, was also inaugurated by minister of Railways, on December 25th, 2018.

The first Freight Train Service has received an immense response from importers and exporters. Within a span of one month an estimated 55,000 tons of freight via more than 2000 containers, has been transported through 36 scheduled freight carriers between Karachi and Lahore.

The demand of the private sector has been there since long to operate a schedule train which Marine group has under taken to offer door to door service. The group is confident that this initiative will not only regain the lost confidence of the traders, also the industry get the maximum benefit from this joint venture”, the spokesperson further added.

Road safety awareness must to check accidents

Karachi:Justice Helpline President Nadeem A Sheikh here Wednesday said that proper road safety awareness is a must to check accidents and ensure safe traveling and commuting.

He said Pakistan is amongst the countries where the ration of fatal roads accidents is very high and it is responsibility of the citizens and government to take steps for make our roads and streets safer and secure. He said the road accidents of bikers are common and they are also dangerous so efforts are needed to train bikers, who are mostly youngsters, to respect road rules and traffic laws. He said private and public transport vehicles should be run following strictly the road safety rules. He said heavy transport especially goods trucks and trailers also adopt road safety measure for the benefits of whole society.

He said soon we will hold a road safety conference in Islamabad and such programs would also be held in other cities. He said in this regard we have met with federal communication secretary Shoab Ahmed Siddiqui who has also assured his full cooperation in holding the road safety moot. He said involving students and educational institutions in measures to improve road safety would offer maximum benefits in making our roads and streets safer for drivers, commuters and pedestrians.

Aftab Pathan given additional charge of CTD chief

KARACHI:Dr. Aftab Ahmed Pathan, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan (BS-21), Additional inspector General of Police Establishment and Training Sindh Karachi is allowed to hold the charge of Additional Inspector General of Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh Karachi during training program of Abdullah Shaikh PSP, for Anti-Money Laundering scheduled to be held from 20.1.2019 to 25. 01, 2019 at Abu Dhabi (UAE) in addition to his own duties, says a handout.

KARACHI:Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah has said that the Sindh Government is endeavoring to maintain a better system of cleanliness and beatification for Karachi.

He said related institutions like Sindh Solid Waste Management Board are functional, while plan to produce energy with solid waste /garbage is also in process.

He expressed these views while addressing a delegation of the officers of Pakistan Navy on a study tour to Sindh Wednesday morning.

He also noted that the Sindh is the only province where the syllabus from class one to intermediate have anti-drug chapters to save our children from this menace.

He pointed out that the education has been given a special focus in Sindh where 55000 primary, 45000 secondary schools, 250 colleges and a large number of universities are busy in the academic task.

The Sindh Chief Secretary also maintained that SEPA Sindh Environmental Protection Agency has been playing its past for pollution control, and CETP (Combined effluent treatment, plants) are being developed for proper disposal of industrial waste, as well.

He noted that K-IV and S-III projects of water and sewerage are in operation to ameliorate the citizens from the difficulties.

Sports: Tennis: IC Inter-School Tennis C’ship commences Jan 28

Karachi:International Lawn Tennis Club Pakistan is organizing second edition of IC Inter-School Red and Orange Ball Tennis Championship will be held on January 28 here at St. Mary GB School.

All primary schools having boys and girls of Under 8 and Under 6 years of age tennis players can enter in this championship.

All primary schools can send entry of two boys and two girls of under 8 or under 6 age categories. The tournament will be played with orange and red modified balls.

PTI’s govt failed to facilitate citizens: Adviser

KARACHI:Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh on Information Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has been unable to set priorities to provide relief to the people.

Talking to media here on Wednesday, Adviser said the looming crisis in the country would take its toll on the country’s fledgling economy if corrective steps were not taken. He said federal government and FBR cannot achieve tax-related goals and now had planned to drop another bomb in the name of t mini-budget.

The federal government is requesting to take measures to reduce the problems of the people,” he aid.

He appreciated Sindh police role towards peace in the city, adding that CM Murad Ali Shah has also been directed to speed up crackdown on fake number platelets. He said citizens could get vehicles number plates for excise and Taxation office.

Zardari, Talpur appear before court, interim bail extends till 14th Feb

KARACHI:A banking court on Wednesday extended the interim bail of PPP leader MNA Asif Ali Zardari and his sister MPA Faryal Talpur till February 14 in a money laundering case.

Zardari and Talpur appeared before the court as the interim bail granted to them in the case went expired. Security measures were taken as PPP supporters gathered outside the court.

The banking court while hearing the mega money laundering scam granted the interim bail to both accused till the 14th February.

However, the court ordered to provide complete medical facilities to Abdul Ghani Majeed. Anwar and Abdul Ghani Majeed’s bail applications will be heard on February 6, Wednesday.

On December 29, Anwar Majeed, the head of the Omni Group who has been accused in a wide-reaching money laundering and fake bank accounts case, filed a petition in the Supreme Court to have the JIT report implicating him in the case rejected. The petition, which has also been filed on behalf of his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, rejects the JIT report and its allegations.

The applicants are entirely innocent of each and every one of the (false) allegations made in the JIT report and its executive summary,” says the petition. There is no lawful basis for the JIT request that the allegations be referred to NAB, it adds.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is investigating 32 people in relation to money laundering from fictitious accounts, including Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur.

The money laundering scam was revealed when State Bank of Pakistan sent a report of suspicious transaction to the Federal Investigation Agency in 2015.

The FIA authorities say some bank managers and administration opened fake bank accounts at the behest of Omni Group during 2013 and 2015 for six months.

The bank accounts were allegedly used for money laundering of Rs 35 billion, according to documents available with investigators.

After receiving the State Bank Report, FIA Director Sindh ordered an inquiry which found four accounts being used in suspicious transactions.
