KU announces B Com external fees schedule

KARACHI:   Karachi University’s (KU) Controller Examinations has notified the fees schedule of B.Com. Part I, and II, Both and Improvement of division external annual examinations 2017.

Candidates may submit the examination forms and fees from 11th January till 26th January, 2018.

The fee for B.Com part I, II, is Rs. 4600, while the fees for B.Com both parts is Rs. 7900.

Sports: Golf: Rashid D. Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Tourney begins today

Karachi: Bank AL Habib’s 7th Rashid D. Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Tournament 2018 tees off today (Thursday) here at Karachi Golf Club.

The total prize and appearance money has been increased to Rs. 6 million.

This year, the main tournament will be played over 72 holes from January 11 to 14 with cut over final 2 days as per Pakistan Golf Federation’s (PGF) rules.

The Senior National Professionals and Junior Professionals will also be playing in their respective categories concurrently. In addition, a two days match for local Professionals & Caddies of KGC is also underway.

This tournament is one of the most prominent golf events in PGF’s calendar with one of the highest prize money and is sponsored by Bank AL Habib. Pakistan’s Number 1 Golfer Mohammad Shabbir Iqbal will defend his title against a field of 100 leading golfers from across the Country.

Last year, Shabbir scored 205 over 54 holes, 11 under par and bagged top prize money after a sensational play-off with Pakistan’s Number 2 Mohammad Munir.

As before, appearance money amounting to Rs. 500,000 will be distributed among top five golfers of Pakistan. A brand new Toyota car will also be awarded to the first player who achieves a hole-in-one.

in 2014, KGC’s Abrar Ahmad hit a hole-in-one from a distance of 147 yards at the yellow course at KGC and won a brand new 1300cc car.

The final round will be played on Sunday, January 14, followed by prize distribution ceremony.

Dipl: (China rejects speculations of military base in Gwadar)

ISLAMABAD: China has rejected speculations that it is planning to establish a military base in Gwadar area of Balochistan.

According to reports, briefing the reporters in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang termed the media reports in this connection as unnecessary speculations.

He said building of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Lu Kang said China and Pakistan are also making efforts to build the CPEC which is in the common interests of the countries along the route.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said he doesn’t think it is necessary for the outside world to make too much guesses in this regard.

Man killed over old enmity in Karachi

KARACHI: A man was shot dead over old enmity in Khayaban-e-Roomi area of the city in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to police sources, two unknown men opened fire on a car in Defence Khayaban-e-Roomi. As a result, a 30-old-man, Imran, hailed from Balochistan city of Chagai, sustained severe bullet injuries.

Police have recorded deceased friend initial statement, wherein he claims that two men, including Sami, chased his car and fled after firing on his car.

The injured was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sports: Cricket: Pakistan names squad for T20 series against New Zealand

Karachi: Pakistan has named its squad for the three-match T20 series in New Zealand, with Mohammad Nawaz called up to replace the injured Imad Wasim.

The ICC Champions Trophy champions are currently 2-0 down from the first two ODIs against the Black Caps with three left to play.

The T20 series, which follows the ODI series, will see the world’s No.1 ranked team in the format, New Zealand, pitted against the No.2, Pakistan, who beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in their last T20 outing in the UAE in October.

Former captain-turned chief selector Inzamam ul Haq said of the squad selected: “Imad Wasim was yet to recover from his knee injury, and was told to continue his rehabilitation at the NCA. Mohammad Nawaz has been named to replace Imad Wasim.

He also confirmed that batsman Sohaib Maqsood was not considered for selection due to a back injury.

The squad, which will be captained by Sarfraz Ahmed and will compete three T20Is between January 22 to 88, 2018, is as follows:

Judge’s son escapes ‘armed attack’

KARACHI:   Unidentified armed men opened fire on the car of Supreme Court judge Justice Gulzar Ahmed’s son Saad Gulzar, in Korangi area of the city on Wednesday.

SSP Korangi Noman Siddiqui said armed men in a suspicious vehicle opened fire on Saad’s car near Vita Chowrangi in Korangi industrial area; however, Saad escaped safely.

In reaction the security guard of Saad also opened firing on which the suspects fled away.

Siddiqui further said the incident may be the result of a misunderstanding as no one was killed or injured in the exchange of fire.
