Chandi Raj Dhakal Assumes SAARC CCI Presidency in Islamabad Ceremony

ISLAMABAD: The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) witnessed a significant transition in leadership as Chandi Raj Dhakal, a Nepali industrialist, assumed the presidency from outgoing President Md. Jashim Uddin of Bangladesh. The formal handing-over ceremony, held in Islamabad and attended by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, marked the beginning of a new era for the organization.

According to SAARC Energy Centre, the event featured opening remarks by Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), who welcomed delegations from across the SAARC nations. In his inaugural address, President Dhakal outlined his vision to transform SAARC CCI into an action-oriented platform, emphasizing business diplomacy and regional collaboration.

Federal Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, serving as the Chief Guest, reiterated Pakistan's support for SAARC's goals, highlighting the importance of regional integration and cooperation. Outgoing President Md. Jashim Uddin reflected on his tenure, noting the completion of the SAARC CCI Headquarters in Islamabad as a key achievement.

The ceremony saw participation from regional business leaders, both in-person and virtually, demonstrating confidence in the new leadership. Special Guest Hina Pervez Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, stressed the significance of women's empowerment in regional development.

The event concluded with a call for enhanced regional unity beyond political challenges, as President Dhakal encouraged member states to pursue shared economic growth and prosperity.
